Metapolis, Modern skyscraper in Hwaseong, South Korea
Metapolis is a modern skyscraper in Hwaseong with 66 floors above ground and five levels below the surface. The building houses residential apartments, offices, retail stores, and hotel rooms throughout its height.
Construction began in 2006 under POSCO E&C and Shindongah E&C supervision and finished in July 2010. The project marked a turning point in Hwaseong's development as a contemporary business hub.
Metapolis represents how modern South Korean cities blend residential and commercial spaces to serve growing urban populations. The building demonstrates the contemporary approach to mixing daily work and living environments in a single structure.
The building is accessible by public transportation through multiple entry points connected to Hwaseong's transport network. Visitors should allow extra time when arriving due to security screening at the entrances.
The structure uses specialized engineering techniques developed by Chang Minwoo Structural Consultants and Thornton Tomasetti to support its considerable height. These methods allowed engineers to pack many uses safely into one slender vertical design.
