Flevoland

Flevoland encompasses three polders reclaimed from Lake IJssel, featuring rich marine clay soil and extensive agricultural landscapes across 2,412 square kilometers.

The land reclamation project began after the 1916 flood, leading to the creation of Noordoostpolder in 1942, East Flevoland in 1957, and South Flevoland in 1968.

The province maintains strong agricultural traditions with extensive fields of cereals, flowers, and apples, while supporting modern dairy farming practices throughout its territory.

Regular train services connect the main cities of Almere and Lelystad to Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Schiphol Airport through the Flevolijn railway network.

The entire province stands on land that was underwater until the mid-20th century, making it the largest artificial territory in the world.
