Pagoda, Observation tower in Efteling, Netherlands
The Pagoda is an observation tower in Efteling where a rotating cabin is mounted on a hydraulic arm and lifts visitors into the air. The cabin holds about 100 people and slowly rotates while ascending, letting visitors see the park from all directions.
The ride opened in 1987 as part of Efteling's plan to add more mechanical attractions to its portfolio. It marked a growth phase that expanded both the park's layout and visitor experience.
The structure displays Thai temple design elements that give it an exotic appearance quite different from other park rides around it.
The ride lasts about ten minutes, including the slow climb and rotation time at the top. The attraction runs in nearly all weather, though it may shut down in strong winds or lightning.
A massive counterweight buried underground anchors the structure during operation and prevents tipping. This hidden system is not visible to riders but proves essential to safe operation.
