PandaVision, 4D cinema attraction at Efteling theme park, Netherlands
PandaVision is a 4D cinema attraction at the Efteling theme park in Loon op Zand, combining stereoscopic 3D visuals with physical effects such as moving seats, water sprays, and wind. The theater seats around 400 people and delivers the presentation through several senses at the same time.
The attraction opened in 2002 as a joint project between Efteling and the World Wildlife Fund, aiming to reach park visitors with conservation messages through entertainment. The partnership was an early example of a theme park working directly with an environmental organization.
PandaVision brought visitors face to face with threatened animals and habitats through a format that combined images with physical sensations like wind and water. This made the subject of nature conservation feel tangible in a way that a flat screen never could.
Visitors receive 3D glasses at the entrance and should expect to get splashed with water or hit by bursts of air during the show. Those who are sensitive to sudden movements or getting wet may want to keep that in mind before entering.
A mechanical tree branch weighing around 1000 kilograms moves above the audience at certain moments during the show. Most visitors only notice it when it suddenly shifts directly overhead, adding a surprise that the screen alone cannot provide.
