The troll king

The Troll King is an animatronic character in the Fairy Tale Forest section of Efteling theme park, brought to life through robotic engineering. The figure moves and responds to visitors through electronic systems and mechanical controls.

The Fairy Tale Forest opened with Efteling in 1952 as one of the park's original attractions, introducing animated characters to Dutch visitors from the start. These figures became a defining part of the park's experience for generations.

The figure embodies Nordic folklore about forest creatures that inhabit wild places in European mythology. You encounter this being as part of the immersive storytelling experience woven throughout the park.

You will find this character in the Fairy Tale Forest area as you walk through the park on marked pathways. Watch for movements and sounds as you approach the display.

The figure's electronics respond to visitor movements and adjust actions based on how close people get. This interactive element was quite novel when the Fairy Tale Forest first opened to the public.
