The House of the Five Senses

The House of the Five Senses, Park entrance at Efteling, Netherlands

Description

The House of the Five Senses is the main entrance building of the Efteling theme park, distinguished by five peaked roof sections inspired by Indonesian design traditions. Inside, it contains customer service areas, shops, restrooms, and facilities to welcome arriving guests.

History

Construction of this entrance building began in late 1995, though labor disputes in the building trades delayed its completion. The finished structure opened to the public in 1996 as the park's primary gateway.

Culture

The building blends traditional Indonesian design elements with modern park architecture, creating a welcoming gateway that sets the tone for the theme park experience. Visitors step into a space designed to spark curiosity and wonder from the moment they arrive.

Practical

The entrance area is well equipped with facilities and easy to navigate upon arrival. Allow some time before heading into the park to use restrooms and get oriented with the layout.

Did you know?

This structure is notable for having one of the world's largest reed thatched roofs, constructed entirely with traditional materials. The scale and craftsmanship of the roof covering make it a remarkable feature that many visitors overlook.
