George and the Dragon, Wooden racing roller coaster in Efteling, Netherlands
The George and the Dragon features two parallel wooden tracks, named Fire and Water, allowing trains to race against each other at speeds of 75 kilometers per hour.
The roller coaster opened in July 2010, replacing the previous Pegasus ride and requiring a construction investment of 13 million euros from Efteling theme park.
The design incorporates elements from European folklore, depicting the medieval tale of Saint George confronting a mechanical dragon that measures 12 meters in height.
Four trains with twelve cars each transport 1,750 riders per hour, with passengers choosing between the Fire track or Water track for different experiences.
The wooden structure, made entirely from Canadian Yellow Pine, includes components that were individually cut and assembled directly at the construction site.
