Perm

Perm is a large urban center in Perm Krai, Russia, extending for many kilometers along the Kama River and divided into several administrative districts. Each district contains residential neighborhoods, small parks, and administrative complexes, with broad avenues linking one zone to the next and green patches scattered between the housing blocks.

Mining engineer Tatishchev established a settlement here in 1723 to support copper extraction from nearby deposits. By the 20th century, factories producing military equipment and heavy machinery had transformed the place into a major industrial hub.

The double New Year tradition continues here, with celebrations on December 31 and again on January 13 following the old calendar. In summer, street performers and musicians appear in public squares and along the riverfront, attracting locals who pause to watch on their way home.

Because the urban area is so spread out, visitors rely on trams and buses to move between different neighborhoods. Winter temperatures regularly fall well below freezing, so pack layers and insulated footwear if you plan to visit between November and March.

Two small rural settlements named Adishchevo and Kazarma 30 km lie within the administrative boundaries of this otherwise urban territory. Farmland and wooden houses exist side by side with apartment towers under one municipal authority, a reminder that Russian administrative divisions often blend very different landscapes.
