Northern Borders Province, Administrative province in northern Saudi Arabia
Northern Borders Province is an administrative region in northern Saudi Arabia that runs along the borders with Iraq and Jordan. It contains four governorates and covers wide desert landscapes with scattered settlements and agricultural areas.
The region was established as an administrative province to organize and govern the northern frontier areas of the kingdom. Development of infrastructure and industrial facilities changed the area that was previously dominated by nomadic herding.
Local residents maintain traditional craft production and agricultural practices that reflect generations of knowledge about survival in desert conditions.
Airports and a well-developed road network connect the towns of the province and allow travel across the wide region. Those planning longer overland trips should carry supplies and pay attention to weather conditions.
In the industrial city of Waad Alshamal, phosphate is processed, a raw material important for fertilizer production. The facilities lie away from the main settlements and are surrounded by desert plains.
