Al-Nukhailah Mosque

Al-Nukhailah Mosque is a medieval religious site in Al Kifl featuring a distinctive conical muqarnas dome that rises approximately 20 meters above the ground. Persian inscriptions decorate the walls of its minaret, and the structure serves as an active place of worship for the surrounding community.

The mosque was built in 1316 during Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan's reign, following his father Öljaitü's establishment of guardianship over the sacred site. This foundation transformed the location into a significant pilgrimage destination.

The mosque houses the shrine of Prophet Ezekiel and connects Islamic and Jewish traditions, with five Jewish saints honored near the main sanctuary. This shared sacred site draws pilgrims from both faiths who come to pay respects at the tombs.

The mosque is accessed through the town of Al Kifl in Babylon Governorate, located south of Hilla, where daily religious ceremonies take place. Visitors should respect the active prayer schedule and follow appropriate dress codes when entering this working place of worship.

In 2014, Iranian companies and the Shi'a community waqf funded an 800 million dinar restoration project primarily focused on the minarets. This large-scale renovation helped preserve the historic structure for future generations.
