Districts of Republican Subordination, Administrative region in central Tajikistan
The Districts of Republican Subordination form an administrative region in central Tajikistan, composed of nine districts and four city-level settlements near Dushanbe. The territory encompasses varied terrain with river valleys and highland areas that together make up this important zone surrounding the capital.
After the dissolution of Stalinabad Oblast in 1951, these territories came under direct government control of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. This administrative structure later transformed into the present districts organized around Dushanbe, maintaining their role as a surrounding zone for the capital.
The population distribution shows a majority of Tajik residents at 85 percent and an Uzbek minority of 11.7 percent according to 2010 statistics.
The region operates on UTC+05:00 time and maintains an established postal system for identifying different areas within its boundaries. The best time to explore is from June through September when weather is most stable, though mountain roads may be difficult to reach during winter months.
The Vakhsh River crosses through the region, playing an important role in its water supply and agriculture. The Gissar and Zeravshan mountain ranges form natural boundaries, and snow covers higher elevations from October through May, creating seasonal landscape variations.
