南港山, Mountain trail in Nangang District, Taiwan
Nangang Mountain is a peak in Nangang District, Taipei, reached by a network of stone-stepped paths that wind through thick forests of acacia and mixed trees. The mountain is part of the Four Beasts Mountain Scenic Area and connects to neighboring peaks via marked trails.
The area was once home to indigenous communities before it became part of the expanding city of Taipei. As the city grew, the mountain was designated as part of a protected scenic area open to the public.
Several temples sit along the slopes, including the Daitiandian Lingyun Temple near the trailhead, where local people come to pray and meet on weekends. The mix of a hiking path and a place of worship gives this mountain a different feel from most city trails.
The trailhead is a short walk from Xiangshan MRT Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. The paths are clearly marked throughout, so no map or prior knowledge of the area is needed.
Near the summit, a large boulder is inscribed with the characters for Nine Five Peak, a name drawn from traditional numerical symbolism. On a clear day, the view from that rock takes in Taipei 101 and the rooftops of Xinyi District directly below.
