Boybuloq, Limestone cave in Boysuntov Mountains, Uzbekistan.
Boybuloq is a cave system in the Boysuntov Mountains consisting of multiple interconnected passages and chambers through limestone formations. The network includes various levels with halls, water channels, and natural features throughout its structure.
Systematic exploration began in 1984 when Russian speleologists first documented the cave, marking the start of modern cave research in Central Asia. This work established the foundation for understanding the underground landscape.
The name Boybuloq comes from Uzbek words meaning rich and spring, referring to the water that flows from the cave entrance. Visitors can see this water emerging from the mountainside and understand how it inspired the local naming.
The main entrance sits at high elevation in the mountains and becomes inaccessible during winter due to snow. Visitors should come prepared with sturdy footwear and appropriate gear since the terrain is challenging.
The system has seven different entrances leading into the cave network, offering multiple entry points for exploration. Water-filled passages at the deepest sections may connect to neighboring cave systems.
