Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station, Railway junction in Bangalore, India
Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station is the central rail hub in Bengaluru and part of the South Western Railway network. Ten platforms line the tracks and receive trains from across India every day.
The rail connection emerged during colonial times and served military purposes at first. Later the facility opened to the public and became the main transport node for the growing city.
The name honors a freedom fighter from Karnataka who resisted British rule, awarded in 2016. Many locals still use the older name, calling it City Railway Station in everyday conversation.
A foot overbridge links the railway platforms to the metro station and allows a direct transfer between both transport modes. The main hall stays open around the clock, so travelers with early or late trains can access the facility anytime.
A tunnel aquarium sits inside the main hall and displays fish and other water creatures along about 3.6 meters (12 feet) of glass. Travelers can walk through the tunnel and watch the animals up close while waiting for their train.
