People's Square station, Underground metro station in Huangpu District, Shanghai, China
People's Square Station is an underground metro station in central Shanghai serving three different lines with seven platforms and six tracks across multiple levels. The station connects major shopping areas and office buildings within the district.
The station opened in 1995 for Line 1 and grew as Line 2 was added in 1999 and Line 8 gained access in 2007. This gradual expansion made it a key hub in Shanghai's transport system.
Musicians perform at a designated corner every Saturday since 2013, giving this transfer station a special role as a meeting point for Shanghai residents.
The station has multiple entrances connected to major shopping areas and office buildings, making access to different parts of the district convenient. Visitors find good signage in multiple languages throughout the station.
A 2009 engineering project transformed a previous Line 1 connection into a new side platform for Line 8. This modification improved how passengers transfer between the different lines.
