Tongjiao Temple

Tongjiao Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary in Dongcheng arranged with multiple halls including the Mahavira Hall and Sangharama Palace Hall in traditional Chinese architectural style. These spaces occupy a compact grounds that displays the typical layout of such religious sites.

This sanctuary was established during the Ming dynasty by a court eunuch and later expanded during major renovations. A significant transformation occurred in the 1940s when religious leaders oversaw the addition of new structures.

This temple serves as a home for female Buddhist monastics who practice and maintain their traditions within its walls. Visitors can observe how religious life unfolds here and the role these women play in the local spiritual community.

This site is located in the northern section of Dongcheng and can be reached on foot from a nearby subway station. The entrance sits along Zhenxian Lane and the location is straightforward to find by following street markers.

This sanctuary once housed a respected Buddhist school where students studied religious teachings and philosophy. This educational chapter in the site's history was later disrupted by larger historical events.
