Tassili n'Ajjer

The Tassili n'Ajjer plateau extends across 72,000 square kilometers of southeastern Algeria, featuring sandstone formations shaped by wind erosion over millions of years.

The site contains more than 15,000 rock drawings and engravings dating from 8000 BCE to 1500 BCE, documenting changes in climate and human activities through time.

The rock art reveals different periods of human occupation, including the Round Heads Period and Cattle Period, showing hunting scenes and social gatherings.

Access to the national park requires permits and local guides who lead visitors through marked trails while explaining the geological formations and archaeological discoveries.

The park houses Mediterranean cypress trees that survive in this desert environment, along with natural pools that support native fish species.
