Ōbai-in, Zen Buddhist temple in Kita-ku, Japan
The temple features traditional architecture with ornate gates, sliding panel paintings, and three distinct gardens designed according to Zen principles.
Oda Nobunaga ordered the construction of this temple in 1562 to honor his father, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi later supervised its reconstruction in 1586.
The interior of the main hall displays 44 monochrome fusuma paintings by Unkoku Togan, depicting scenes of hermits and landscapes from the Momoyama period.
The temple opens exclusively from October 5th to December 8th between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with admission fees of 800 yen for adults.
The temple contains Japan's oldest existing Zen kitchen building, constructed in 1589 through donations from Takakage Kobayakawa.
