The South Bačka District encompasses 4,016 square kilometers of northern Serbia, containing eleven municipalities and the capital city of Novi Sad along the Danube River.
The district emerged through various administrative changes, from Bulgarian-Slavic rule in the 9th century to its current form established on January 29, 1992.
