Yishun, Planning area and residential town in North Region, Singapore
Yishun is a planning area and residential town in Singapore's North Region, spanning 21 square kilometers (8 square miles). The district comprises nine subzones including Northland, Springleaf, and Lower Seletar, which together form a larger community.
The region got its name from Lim Nee Soon, a merchant who established rubber and pineapple plantations here in the early 1900s. This agricultural past shaped the land before it developed into a modern residential town.
The neighborhood houses multiple places of worship for different communities, including Chinese temples, churches, Hindu temples, mosques, and gurdwaras. These religious spaces shape daily life and reflect the diversity of people living here.
Northpoint City, connected to Yishun MRT station, is the largest shopping center in the northern region with numerous retail stores and services. Good public transport connections make the area easy to reach and explore.
The Khoo Teck Puat Hospital weaves gardens and water features into its buildings, creating an uncommon blend of medical care and nature. This approach makes the facility a noteworthy place where patients encounter green spaces during treatment.
