Europabrücke

Europabrücke is a pedestrian suspension bridge that connects two sections of the Europaweg trail across a deep gorge at high altitude. The steel and cable structure allows hikers to cross an exposed valley and experience the mountain landscape from an unusual vantage point.

The original structure was completed in July 2010 to create a missing link along a historic mountain hiking route. The bridge made possible for the first time a continuous foot path between Zermatt and Grächen across a previously difficult-to-access mountain passage.

The bridge brings together hikers from many nations who meet and share their experiences at this high-altitude meeting point. It represents a connection between European cultures right in the heart of the mountains.

The best time to visit is during clear weather and stable conditions earlier in the day when visibility extends the furthest. Sturdy footwear and a head for heights are important since the route is exposed and the bridge's movements are noticeable.

The crossing of the bridge often takes just a few minutes, but the altitude of roughly 2200 meters and the exposed span above the gorge make it an unforgettable moment. Many hikers report a thrilling sensation heightened by the slight movement of the cables as they walk.
