Girnar ropeway

Girnar ropeway is an aerial lift that spans just over 2 kilometers across Mount Girnar, carrying passengers in enclosed cabins suspended above the terrain. The system crosses mountain slopes and provides views across the surrounding landscape during the journey.

The ropeway began operating in 2020, transforming access to the mountain for the first time in its long history. This modern addition changed how people reach temples and shrines that have stood on the slopes for generations.

Mount Girnar is sacred to both Jain and Hindu communities, with temples positioned at various elevations that draw pilgrims seeking spiritual experiences. The ropeway now allows worshippers to access these sites while preserving the mountain's role as a place of devotion.

The ride takes about 9 minutes and saves visitors from the multi-hour hike that was once necessary. Best to travel during fair weather, as the ropeway closes during strong winds or heavy rain.

The cabins rotate 360 degrees as they travel, giving passengers panoramic views from every angle during their ascent and descent. This rotating feature makes the journey itself a memorable part of the experience.
