OCT Bay, shopping mall in Shenzhen, China
OCT Bay is a large leisure and shopping area in Shenzhen featuring modern buildings, wide pedestrian paths, and water features throughout. The grounds include a major shopping center with dining options, an artificial beach, wetland areas, and nightly water shows with lights and music that run for about 40 minutes.
OCT Bay began opening in summer 2011 and has since grown into a major hub for leisure and shopping in Shenzhen. The project emerged as part of a larger development by the OCT Group to enhance the city with contemporary recreational facilities.
The name OCT Bay comes from the OCT Group, a major cultural and entertainment company. The area serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors walk along the waterfront, dine at restaurants overlooking the water, and watch the nightly water shows that light up the bay.
The grounds are free to enter and open 24 hours, allowing you to visit whenever you wish to walk, enjoy views, or shop and dine. Getting there is straightforward by metro to Shenzhen Bay Park Station or by bus, with several stops nearby, and wide paths accommodate wheelchairs and strollers with ease.
The area features a rare IMAX cinema overlooking the water, one of few of its kind in the city. Additionally, there is a drive-through McDonald's nearby, an unusual attraction that many visitors find surprising and convenient.
