Umbul Ponggok

Umbul Ponggok is a natural spring water pool in Klaten, Indonesia, with clear water flowing from underground sources. The main pool is surrounded by smaller swimming areas, and wooden walkways lead across parts of the shallow water.

The spring supplied surrounding fields with water for decades before locals opened it for recreational use. The conversion into a bathing area began in the early 2000s through community efforts.

The name comes from a local term for spring water, and the grounds show typical Javanese plantings along the pool edges. Visitors often see families sitting together in the water while sharing homemade snacks.

The water stays cool all year, so many visitors bring swimwear with long sleeves. It is best to come during weekdays to avoid larger crowds on weekends.

Photographers place colorful props and decorations on the pool floor, so swimmers can pose underwater with staged scenes. These prepared backdrops change regularly and follow seasonal or popular themes.
