San Cristóbal Airport, airport in San Cristóbal Island, Ecuador
Aeropuerto de San Cristóbal is a small airport located just west of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristóbal Island, in the Galapagos archipelago of Ecuador. It connects the island to the Ecuadorian mainland and handles small to medium aircraft.
The airport was built to link San Cristóbal, one of the most remote inhabited islands of the Galapagos, to the Ecuadorian mainland. Its opening marked a turning point for the local population and the start of organized tourism on the island.
The airport is often the first place where visitors encounter the strict biosecurity checks that define entry to the Galapagos. Every bag and food item is inspected to prevent foreign species from reaching the islands.
The airport sits just a short drive from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and is even walkable with light luggage. Taxis are available outside the terminal and the town center is easy to reach on foot or by car.
Sea lions sometimes rest on the runway, which can briefly delay flight operations. This makes it one of the few airports in the world where wildlife directly affects the daily schedule.
