Mercato Shopping Mall, Shopping center in Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates.
Mercato Shopping Mall is a multi-level shopping center in the Jumeirah district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, covered by a large central glass dome. It holds around 90 stores, a seven-screen cinema, and a range of dining options spread across its floors.
The mall was developed by Al Zarooni Group and opened on October 28, 2002. It was among the first themed retail destinations in Dubai, appearing during a period when the city was rapidly expanding its commercial offer.
The interior is designed to look like an Italian Renaissance market town, with painted facades, arches, and ornate staircases. Open plaza-like spaces between the shops give the feeling of walking through a European old town rather than a conventional mall.
The mall has underground parking available for visitors arriving by car, which makes access straightforward. The levels are clearly signed, so it is easy to move between shops, the cinema, and the dining area without getting disoriented.
Natural daylight enters through the central glass dome and casts shifting patterns on the marble floors below as the sun moves. This makes the indoor light noticeably different from most shopping centers, which rely entirely on artificial lighting.
