Takhar Province

The province encompasses 12,333 square kilometers of terrain, extending from the border with Tajikistan to the northern foothills of Afghanistan's central mountains.

The territory emerged as an independent province in 1964 following the division of Qataghan Province into three separate administrative regions: Baghlan, Kunduz, and Takhar.

The population consists of multiple ethnic groups, with Uzbeks and Tajiks forming the majority, while Pashtuns represent a substantial minority across its 1,000 villages.

Agricultural production centers on wheat, rice, barley, sorghum, and sesame, with farmers requiring additional resources such as machinery and fertilizers to increase productivity.

Natural salt deposits at Takcha Khanna mine supply both domestic markets and neighboring regions, contributing to the provincial economy through mineral extraction.
