Germán Busch Province, Border province in Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Germán Busch Province is an administrative region in southeastern Bolivia comprising three municipalities with Puerto Suárez as its hub. The territory spreads across land within the Pantanal wetland system and connects to major river routes.
The province formed in 1984 through administrative reorganization that brought together sections of neighboring regions. This action reshaped territorial boundaries and created a new administrative framework.
Chiquitano and Ayoreo communities call this region home and continue their traditions within the Pantanal wetland landscape. Visitors can observe how local groups interact with and depend on this distinctive environment.
Puerto Suárez serves as the administrative center with basic services and transportation options for visitors. The region sits in the remote southeastern corner of the country, so planning ahead for arrival is important.
The territory includes Otuquis National Park, an important protected area for wetland ecosystems. Additionally, this region provides Bolivia with its only direct water access to the Atlantic Ocean through a river system.
