Qhunqhu Wankani, Archaeological site in Ingavi Province, Bolivia.
The site extends across 17 acres of land featuring sunken temples, large platforms, a central plaza, and multiple circular stone structures.
Established in the late first century A.D., Qhunqhu Wankani functioned as a ceremonial center in the Andes Mountains near Lake Titicaca.
Excavations between 2005 and 2007 revealed 972 bone fragments from 25 individuals, indicating complex mortuary practices involving calcium oxide treatments.
The archaeological site maintains regular preservation through collaboration between Bolivian professionals, North American researchers, and local Aymara communities.
Analysis of human remains indicates that people traveled from distant regions to participate in ceremonies, suggesting a mobile population in ancient Andean society.
