Arusha Region, Administrative region in northern Tanzania.
Arusha Region is a region in northern Tanzania that encompasses several protected areas and parks. It includes Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha National Park, and portions of Lake Manyara National Park, creating a landscape of different terrains and wildlife habitats.
The region takes its name from the Arusha people, a Bantu group who migrated from Arusha Chini around 400 years ago. This settlement established the foundation for communities that developed in the area.
The Maasai and Waarusha people maintain pastoral traditions that shape how communities live across the land. Their distinctive clothing and grazing patterns are visible throughout the region's villages and plains.
Visitors should know that the different parks offer varying terrain and climate conditions, so planning ahead is helpful. Good footwear and appropriate clothing make exploring the different elevations and landscapes more comfortable.
The region hosts the headquarters of the East African Community, an important regional economic organization. It also served as the location for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, reflecting its role in major international affairs.
