Timika

Timika is the capital of Mimika Regency and sits on the southern coast of Central Papua. The city serves as a major commercial center where coastal life meets the rhythm of the surrounding rainforest.

The city grew from the 1970s onward through large-scale mining development in the region. This industrial activity shaped Timika and turned it into a modern center in Papua.

Moses Kilangin International Airport provides regular flight connections to other Indonesian cities and serves as the main entry point for visitors. The best time to visit is during the drier months, as the region experiences heavy rainfall.

The region ranks among the wettest places on Earth, with heavy rainfall occurring throughout most of the year. This climate has shaped how buildings are constructed and daily life is organized.
