Sovereign Islands, Gated neighborhood in Paradise Point, Australia
Sovereign Islands is a gated residential community made up of six connected islands at the northern end of the Southport Broadwater, in Paradise Point on the Gold Coast. The properties line the waterways directly, with private docks and moorings for boats.
In 1988, the Lewis Land Corporation began transforming what were originally mangrove islands into residential land, giving rise to this development. Over the following decades, the area grew into six fully formed islands with roads, homes, and waterway infrastructure.
The residential area displays brick-paved roads, ornate street lighting, and carefully selected palm trees that shape the visual character of the islands. These physical elements reflect the refined standards that residents maintain throughout their daily lives.
Access to the islands is via a single bridge, and parts of the community are restricted to residents and their guests. Visiting during the day gives the best view of the waterways and the homes along them.
Every property owner pays a yearly levy that goes toward funding the on-site security and the upkeep of shared green spaces. This collective arrangement is what keeps the gates staffed and the common areas maintained.
