Enga Province, Province in Highlands Region, Papua New Guinea

Enga Province spans 12,800 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with the Schrader Range in the northeast and Mount Hagen rising to 3,777 meters.

The region remained isolated until 1938 when Australian explorers first entered the area, leading to subsequent development and provincial establishment in 1978.

The population consists of three main subgroups - Mae, Raiapu, and Kyaka - who maintain traditional beliefs in supernatural beings called yalyakali.

The province connects to Porgera gold mines in the west and Lae port city through road networks, with Wabag serving as the administrative center.

At an elevation exceeding 2,500 meters above sea level, Enga stands as Papua New Guinea's highest province with the Lai and Lagaip rivers flowing through.
