Fisher Caldera, Volcanic caldera on Unimak Island, Alaska, US
Fisher Caldera forms an elliptical depression measuring 11 kilometers wide by 18 kilometers long, containing three crater lakes within its boundaries.
The caldera emerged through a substantial volcanic eruption of an andesitic stratovolcano around 9,100 years ago, creating extensive ash flows reaching the Pacific Ocean.
The name honors Dr. Bernard Fisher, a geologist who disappeared in 1946 while conducting research near Ship Rock in the Aleutian Islands.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory maintains constant seismic monitoring of Fisher Caldera, providing alerts and updates about volcanic activity for public safety.
Fisher Caldera contains multiple geological features including Eickelberg Peak, Mount Finch, and Turquoise cone, rising up to 929 meters within its walls.
