Canoga Park High School, high school in Canoga Park, Los Angeles, California'
Canoga Park High School is a public school in the western San Fernando Valley within Los Angeles. The campus contains both structures from its original 1914 Beaux-Arts Neoclassical design and modern buildings constructed from 1978 onward after earthquake damage required reconstruction.
The school opened in 1914 with just 14 students and three teachers, featuring uncommon Beaux-Arts Neoclassical architecture for that time. It became part of the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1961 and underwent major structural changes following a significant earthquake in 1971.
The school carries the name of Canoga Park, the community that emerged in 1931 from the former settlement of Owensmouth. The campus sits near creeks and the Los Angeles River, spaces that continue to support local wildlife and connect the school to its natural surroundings.
The school is located in the western San Fernando Valley near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Owensmouth Avenue. Public transportation serves the area, and the campus is clearly marked and accessible for visiting.
The school was used as a filming location for the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High and is recognized as the oldest high school in the western San Fernando Valley. It now hosts a robotics team that competes nationally and helps other schools start their own robotics clubs.
