Coronado Island

Coronado Island, Marine park island in Loreto Bay, Mexico.

Coronado Island is a volcanic island in Loreto Bay that stretches roughly four kilometers in length. It rises about 114 meters (375 feet) above the sea and displays dark lava formations shaped by ancient volcanic activity.

The island was formed through volcanic eruptions, with the most recent known activity occurring in the 1500s. This volcanic history shaped the island's geological structure and created the conditions for the marine life found there today.

The island holds UNESCO World Heritage status as part of Loreto Bay Marine Park, serving as a research site for marine biology.

The island is reachable by ferry from Loreto, with the crossing taking about 30 minutes. Once there, you can snorkel, observe marine wildlife, and explore the coastline on your own or with a guide.

Manta rays, sea turtles, and blue-footed boobies inhabit the waters around the island and are frequently spotted here. This concentration of species makes it an important refuge for marine life in this region.
