Teleférico de las Barrancas del Cobre is an aerial cable car system that spans 3 kilometers across Copper Canyon at heights reaching 400 meters without intermediate support towers. The cabins depart every 30 minutes and connect two stations offering views of the canyon landscape below.
The cable car system began operations in 2010 as part of efforts to develop tourism in the Copper Canyon region. Its opening created a new way to experience the landscape across the canyons.
The local Rarámuri people work as operators and guides at this facility, making their presence visible throughout your visit. Their involvement reflects how tourism here connects to the daily work and livelihoods of the communities living in the canyon.
The cable car operates daily with cabins departing every 30 minutes, so wait times are usually brief. It helps to wear comfortable clothing and be at ease with heights, since the ride stays high above the ground throughout the journey.
From the cable car, you see three different canyons at once: Copper Canyon, Tararecua Canyon, and Urique Canyon stretching out beneath you. This vantage point shows the scale and shape of the canyon system in a way you cannot experience from the ground.
