La Blanca

La Blanca is an archaeological site in Guatemala containing multiple stone structures, including a central raised platform with buildings arranged around courtyards. The structures show evidence of careful planning and organization from its period of use.

The site began under the Mokaya culture and reached its peak between 600 and 900 AD. Later abandonment left behind markings from the final period of occupation.

The site reveals how ancient Maya residents lived through pottery, figurines, and burial grounds that archaeologists have uncovered. These objects show the daily practices and beliefs of the people who inhabited this place.

Visiting requires coordination with local guides who are necessary for exploring the site. Prepare for remote terrain and plan for adequate time to walk through the various structures.

Walls display drawings from when the site was being abandoned, with detailed images of human figures and animals. These markings offer insight into art and life during the final period before people left.
