Torres Igvanas Tara Eco City, Sustainable residential tower in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Torres Igvanas Tara Eco City is a 34-floor residential tower in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It has four elevators and planted areas woven into the structure from ground level to the upper floors.
Construction began in August 2014, and the tower reached its full height in early 2018. It was among the first residential projects in the city to include planted areas as a built-in part of the architecture from the start.
The name Eco City reflects what a visitor can actually see from the street: planted terraces and green surfaces built into the facade and common areas. This approach to urban housing is still uncommon in San Pedro Sula, making the building stand out in its neighborhood.
The tower sits near the Villas Mackay, El Barrial, and Colonia Tara neighborhoods, with good road access from different parts of San Pedro Sula. Since it is a private residence, visitors should not expect to enter the building freely.
More than half of the site is covered with planted areas, which is very unusual for a high-rise in Honduras. This affects the microclimate around the building and keeps the immediate surroundings noticeably cooler than a typical paved block.
