Los Nevados National Natural Park

The natural reserve spans 58,300 hectares across four departments, featuring snow-capped volcanoes, glaciers, valleys, and high-altitude grasslands at elevations up to 5,300 meters.

The Colombian government established Los Nevados National Natural Park in 1973 to protect the glacial peaks, water sources, and native wildlife in the Central Cordillera.

Indigenous communities have maintained traditional agricultural practices in the surrounding areas, cultivating crops adapted to the high-altitude conditions of the Andean mountains.

Visitors need permits, warm clothing, and professional guides to explore the marked trails, with access hours restricted between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

The park contains three active volcanoes with permanent ice caps: Nevado del Ruiz, Nevado del Tolima, and Nevado de Santa Isabel, which feed water to over 2 million people.
