Las Catalinas, Costa Rica, Planned beach resort in Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.
Las Catalinas is a planned resort community on Costa Rica's Pacific coast in Guanacaste Province. The property combines residential neighborhoods, shops, and natural reserves with trails that connect different parts of the development.
The project started in 2006 with a vision to build a car-free community following New Urbanism principles. This planning approach has shaped how the place developed from the beginning.
The design draws from colonial town layouts and Mediterranean seaside villages to create gathering spaces. Residents and guests naturally interact in these shared outdoor areas throughout their days.
The entire community is walkable, with restaurants, accommodations, and beaches within easy reach on foot. Biking paths connect the different areas and provide access to trails in the natural sections.
A large tropical dry forest reserve occupies much of the property and protects native vegetation. This forest area is home to howler monkeys, iguanas, and birds that residents and visitors encounter regularly.
