Tabacón Hot Springs is a thermal facility with multiple outdoor pools of varying temperatures, nestled within tropical gardens at the base of Arenal Volcano. The pools are fed by natural hot springs that rise from underground volcanic sources, creating different zones for bathing and soaking.

Tabacón was founded in 1991 by Costa Rican architect Jaime Mikowski, who took two years to develop the site; it opened in April 1993. The springs are heated by Arenal Volcano and range between 22 and 41°C. The resort occupies 300 hectares of rainforest and holds a 5-leaf rating from the Costa Rican Tourism Board.

Tabacón takes its name from the tobacco plant, and the resort was founded in 1991 by Costa Rican architect Jaime Mikowski, who spent two years developing it before opening in April 1993. The 300-hectare rainforest site holds 105 rooms, three restaurants, five bars, a spa and an event room, and its environmental work earned a 5-leaf rating from the Costa Rican Tourism Board plus Sustainable Travel International's Luxury Eco Certification Standard in June 2010.

The facility is easy to navigate on foot since all pools are located in a connected garden area with changing rooms and locker facilities. It is helpful to bring or obtain swimwear and towels before entering the bathing zones.

Water flows continuously and naturally from the volcano's underground system, with each pool maintaining a slightly different temperature depending on its depth and proximity to the heat source. Guests can move between pools to experience varying degrees of warmth and find their preferred soaking temperature.
