Puente Bella Unión, Road bridge in Lima, Peru
The Bella Union Bridge is a road bridge that crosses the Rimac River to link Lima and San Martin de Porres districts. It carries six traffic lanes alongside two dedicated bicycle paths for crossing the river.
Flooding and increased river flow damaged the bridge in 2013, requiring temporary repairs with a provisional structure. A major reconstruction project later replaced it with a modern, fully functional version.
The bridge serves as a central connection point between northern Lima and the city center, representing the urban development of Peru's capital transportation network.
The bridge handles thousands of daily commuters traveling along Avenida Universitaria between residential zones and commercial areas. Peak traffic hours can bring congestion, so traveling during off-peak times offers smoother passage.
The 58-million-sol reconstruction project, completed in 2017, integrated modern engineering solutions while maintaining operations through a temporary Bailey bridge system.
