World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, National monument sites in Alaska and Hawaii, United States
This monument comprises sites at three different locations that commemorate military operations in the Pacific during World War II. At each location, visitors find preserved structures, memorials, and information centers that explain what happened during that period.
These locations emerged following the attack on Pearl Harbor and document the war that the United States fought across the Pacific. They include battlefields in Alaska and occupation sites that show how far the conflict extended northward.
The memorial sites preserve the memory of these locations for those who fought and died there. Visitors can see today how these landscapes serve as places for remembrance and reflection.
The different locations are spread far apart, so visitors should plan travel time between sites and check beforehand which areas are accessible. Some areas are remote and require special preparation or physical fitness to reach.
At one of the Alaska locations, you can see the wreck of an aircraft that crashed during the war and has remained in its original spot for decades. This wreck tells its own story about the air operations and losses of that era.
