Goose Lake State Recreation Area

Goose Lake State Recreation Area is a campground along the Oregon-California border offering both RV and tent camping options. The facility spreads along the lakeshore with various overnight accommodations to suit different kinds of visitors.

The area was established in 1966 by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department as recreational space. The development responded to the need for outdoor opportunities in this remote southern region.

The lake serves as a crucial rest stop for birds traveling between northern and southern regions during migration seasons. Birdwatchers visit to see the different species that pass through depending on the time of year.

The site is open from May through October on a first-come-first-served basis without reservations. Bring your own water or use the water facilities on-site, especially if you are tent camping.

In spring you can watch deer feeding on fruit from an old orchard belonging to a former homestead. This unexpected mix of history and wildlife becomes visible as you explore the grounds.
