Camp Westwind, Youth summer camp on Oregon Coast, United States
Camp Westwind is a youth summer camp on the Oregon Coast spanning 529 acres of land between the Salmon River and Pacific Ocean. The grounds include cabins, dining facilities, forest trails, beaches, a disc golf course, kayaking equipment, and access to four miles of waterfront.
The grounds were established in 1936 by the YWCA of Greater Portland on land with a long history of human inhabitation. This marks a transition from earlier settlement to the current use as a youth education facility.
The land holds deep roots with the Nechesne, a Salish-speaking people who lived here long before the camp began operations. Today visitors experience connection to the surrounding environment through programs that teach environmental stewardship and outdoor skills to young participants.
The facility offers cabin accommodation and features dining halls, trails, and water sports access for visitors of different ages. Plan your visit around the season and available programs, as these affect which activities and areas are open to the public.
The grounds sit within the Cascade Head UN Biosphere Reserve and receive substantial annual investment in land stewardship and conservation work. This location makes it a special place for learning about ecosystems and how people protect natural environments.
