Lemolo Lake, Reservoir and protected area in Douglas County, Oregon.
Lemolo Lake is a reservoir within Umpqua National Forest, surrounded by mountains and dense forests at 4,150 feet elevation. The water body stretches across the landscape with forested shorelines and mountain views in every direction.
The Lemolo Dam was built in the 1950s on the North Umpqua River to generate hydroelectric power for the region. This construction transformed the valley and created the reservoir that exists today.
The name Lemolo comes from Chinook Jargon and means wild or untamed, reflecting the untouched nature of this mountain region. This heritage remains visible in how locals and visitors relate to the landscape as a place of natural character.
The lake has several forest service campgrounds with picnic tables and fire rings available for overnight stays. Visitors should bring their own drinking water, as supplies are not available at the campgrounds.
The lake is home to several fish species including brown trout and rainbow trout that attract anglers from surrounding areas. Waters here reach depths of up to 100 feet, creating interesting conditions for different water activities.
