Prineville Reservoir Wildlife Area, Wildlife area near Prineville, Oregon, US
Prineville Reservoir Wildlife Area sits along the reservoir shores and provides habitats for mule deer, eagles, and many waterfowl species. The protected zone stretches across several miles with open water and shoreline areas mixed with surrounding shrubland and forest sections.
The area came under joint management by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the United States Bureau of Reclamation in 1962. This partnership developed to protect and manage the natural resources surrounding the reservoir.
The protected area contributes to local environmental education by offering opportunities to observe native wildlife in their natural habitats throughout the seasons.
The grounds are accessible for hiking and wildlife viewing, with camping available on the north shore. Vehicle use on many trails is restricted from November 15 to April 15 to protect animals during critical seasons.
The reservoir holds several fish species including rainbow trout and bass that draw anglers to the area. This mix of fishing waters and wildlife protection shows how recreation and conservation work side by side here.
