Fairy Falls

Fairy Falls is a waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon that drops over mossy rocks, splitting into multiple streams that flow through lush ferns and dark basalt formations. The water cascades across the rough stone face in thin ribbons rather than a single heavy curtain.

This waterfall exists within a gorge that formed millions of years ago through volcanic and glacial activity. The geological formations around it record long periods of natural forces that shaped the landscape.

Local Native American tribes considered waterfalls sacred places where spiritual ceremonies and gatherings took place throughout generations.

Reaching this cascade requires a moderate hike of about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) along an established trail with steady uphill sections. The starting parking area is small, so arriving early or visiting on a weekday helps avoid crowding.

The water flow splits into numerous thin ribbons across the rock face, creating patterns that change with seasonal water levels.
