Oneonta Gorge, Creek waterfall in Multnomah County, United States.
Oneonta Gorge features a narrow canyon with vertical walls reaching 100 feet high, creating a natural corridor leading to multiple cascading waterfalls.
The gorge formation dates back to the Missoula Floods during the last ice age, which carved through layers of Columbia River basalt.
Native American tribes of the Columbia River region considered the gorge a sacred place for gathering medicinal plants and performing traditional ceremonies.
Visitors must wade through waist-deep water and climb over a substantial log jam to reach the falls, requiring water shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
The gorge walls support four species of ferns that grow exclusively in this microclimate, making it a specialized habitat for rare plant life.
